The Droitwich Branch of the Royal British Legion would like to record their sincere thanks to all the people of Droitwich, the schools, the shops, businesses, pubs, clubs, churches, residential and care homes for their wonderful support for the 2016 Poppy Appeal.
This year the collection has achieved the outstanding total of £26,207.74 an almost 18% above the previous year and the third year in succession that the previous total has been exceeded.
This success does not happen by accident and would not be possible without the support of local organisations including Droitwich Rotary, Lions and Probus Clubs, the Pamela May Trust plus all the other wonderful volunteers who stand with collection boxes at locations in the town for several hours regardless of the weather and also the teams who distribute the boxes and collect them after Remembrance Day.
This year the Legion was able to hold the traditional parade, thanks in large measure to the help of the Town Council which provided safety marshals at all road crossings and junctions and crowd barriers.
The Remembrance Service was enthusiastically supported by a large crowd including the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire Lady Hughes and other local dignitaries.
The Legion wishes to thank Rev Nigel Byard and other church leaders for conducting the Service and the Salvation Army Band for so ably providing the music.
